The 3rdSalon for editors-in-chiefof China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) sci-tech journals was held in Beijing on Nov 21th, 2014. The theme of this Salon was “the mode of foreigner sci-tech journals in English”; “the internationalizationof China English sci-tech journals”; “how to improve the international influence of ChinaEnglish sci-tech journals”. Editors-in-chiefand presidents of CASTsci-tech journals gathered, discussing various topics of policy and development orientation of our sci-tech journals. Associate Prof. Heqing Huang, executive associate editor-in-chief of Journal of Chinese Pharmaceutical Sciences (JCPS) attended the Salon.
The chairmans of this Salon are Prof. Feng Liu, the general secretary of China Coal Society, and Manchao He, the academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, editor of International Journal of Coal Science & Technology.
At the beginning of the Salon, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences Manchao He gave a important speech. He pointed out that scienceguides to the future; innovation brings development. The export of scientific research and original innovation is sci-tech journals. So, the level of our English sci-tech journals determines the exhibition level of export. In addition, from a science worker’s aspect, Academician He also pointed out that editors should establish our own database, only in this way, we can have our own autonomy.
The Salon especially invited some editors-in-chief to introduce their experience. Jinzhong Cui, the editor-in-chief of Life World,made a report named “Exchange of international experiences of English sci-tech journals hosted by Institute of Botany, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IB-CAS)”. Zhen Zhao, assistant director of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration and editorHan Xufrom Editorial Office of Particuology also sharedexperiences ofhigh qualityacademic journals in English.
The 3rdSalon for editors-in-chiefof CAST sci-tech journalsprovided an opportunity for sci-tech periodicals editors to exchange information, set up collaborations, and contribute to the advancement of sci-tech journals in China.
